Our Projects

Empowering the disadvantaged

The Lifeboat Food Van has been operating in the Burleigh area of the Gold Coast since 2014.

We operate a volunteer operated mobile soup kitchen  every Saturday night at 6.30 pm.

You can find the Lifeboat van at the south end of Burleigh Beach, next to the Surf Life Savers building.

We offer simple nourishing hot food to the homeless and disadvantaged.

We began our charity with a dream of offering transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Domestic Violence survivors may face housing instability when leaving emergency housing adding to their stress.

Homes for Hope aims to offer transitional housing to give survivors and their children the needed time to rebuild their lives.

We hope to soon announce that we have purchased our first property on the Gold Coast for this housing project.

As part of our charitable mission in Vanuatu,  we have worked on infrastructure projects such as education and waste management. As part of our ongoing commitment to local communities built during these projects, we have undertaken to partner with the local community and support a small retail social enterprise in Vanuatu.

This social enterprise is operated by local people and employs local workers thus aiding the local community.

All profits from the business go into supporting the business to grow and employing its paid workers. We are proud to have watched this social enterprise develop into a successful retail social enterprise.

Are you someone struggling to put food on the table for you and your family?

There are times where we all need a helping hand in life, so let us help you.

We offer Emergency Relief food packages from our Reedy Creek premises. Our Op-Shop managers may also assist people with other types of relief when available.

Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Lighthouse Community Services envisions an empowered community, overcoming disadvantage and difficulties through compassionate and inclusive service.

Lighthouse Community Services is an Australian registered charity that began in 2014 when a group of Christian people decided to work together to raise funds with the aim to provide transitional housing to domestic violence survivors. We also provide meals to the homeless through our LifeBoat Project and emergency relief to others in need. Since our beginning, we have supported projects overseas in building needed infrastructure, such as schools, while also partnering with social enterprises to help build community sustainability.

We are a totally community-funded charity. We receive no government funding for any of our projects or services. We use your donations and bequests as well as the funds raised from the goods donated to our op-shops to fund our operations and raise funds for our projects.

Currumbin

The Currumbin Op-Shop joined Lighthouse Community Services in 2014 and was our first Op Shop.

This shop services the local community offering clothing, bric-a-brac and household items. The volunteer team have some long-standing members with strong ties to the local community.

Members of the public are able to request support and assistance from the manager in times of stress.

Canungra

From its beginnings in 2008, Canungra Op-Shop has become quite an iconic part of Canungra. It became part of  Lighthouse Community Services in 2018

The Op-shop played an important role coordinating donations during the bush fires that tragically impacted the area in September 2019.

Community people are able to request support and assistance from the manager in times of stress.

Lighthouse Community Services would not be able to provide its services without a vast amount of time and energy freely given by our wonderful team of volunteers.

With approximately 80 volunteers working across all our projects you can find them assisting us in a multitude of areas; helping with donation pickups, sorting and selling donations, feeding the homeless, providing food packages, administration and record-keeping, digital support, travelling overseas for projects, and most importantly supporting their local communities in times of need.

Volunteering is an opportunity to give back to your community and assist those in need as well as making new friends. Our volunteers enjoy team regular events and celebrations and all teams come together once year at our annual event.
